A good informative book June 29, 2006 Ashish Mahajan (Perth, Australia) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I wanted to have my first dog. But I wasn't sure which breed. So I decided to do some research on breeds like mastiff, rotweiler, doberman, german shepard, labradors and terriers. I bought one book on each breed (I mentioned). This book I bought for doing some research on german shepard. This is a very good informative book specially for people who want to have their first guard dog. It has explained the breed in easy and detailed way. I would recommend this to anyone who want to go in for german shepard or just want to reserch on this breed. Pictures are quite good specially of the puppy.
A good read March 15, 2006 Oscar Jennings 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
For a short read on German Shepards, I found this to be a pretty comprehensive book on the selection and training these dogs. Recommended for anyone contimplating buying one of these dogs and who have never owned one before.
Not too much new here September 21, 2005 D. A. Alderton (centeral WI) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Standard type training steps that are found in most any training manual. Good discussion and history about the breed. I would buy this book again.
Too much hype March 11, 2005 Sherif (Mississauga, Ontario Canada) 16 out of 19 found this review helpful
This book might be good if you intend showing your dog and entering professional competitions. Even then it's not that great. It scratches the surface for all a lot of topics but nothing in detail. A lot of useless info. such as how odor spreads out from an animal or a human being.I have read Good Dogs Great Owners by Brian Kilcommons and The Art of raising a puppy by The Monks of New Skete. By far, those 2 books are much worth the money and time. These 2 books deserve 10 Stars without hesitation. In short, Training your GSD isn't worth the time or money. Get one of the other 2 [ preferably both ]which provide a lot of details, insight and step-by-step instructions. Good luck
great book February 23, 2004 F. L. Busch (Reno, NV) 18 out of 20 found this review helpful
I think this is a great source of info for training your GSD. It also deals with breed history and proper care, it's not all training. If I were to choose just one book to deal with all aspects of the GSD this would be it. Lots of pictures and lots of info. I also got the Boxer training book and was kind of expecting a lot of the information to overlap, but it didn't. It was written by a Boxer lover, not just some dog lover. I've had two German Shepherds in the past, and am about to get another and everything in the book seems spot on. I've got to correct a lot of mistakes I've made in the past after reading this book!
